Jonny McCarthy & Ciara O’Leary Fitzpatrick
Johnny and Ciara have been playing together for over ten years, captivating audiences with their energetic live performances and original interpretation of traditional tunes. Johnny, a fixture at the iconic Wednesday night sessions at The Corner House in Cork city is often joined by Ciara there who fulfills the role of first sub for the legendary Four Star Trio. Both musicians make up the traditional Irish teaching force of MTU Cork School of Music where they tutor and mentor the next generation of Irish traditional players. They are known for their performances of original compositions and varied repertoire of traditional Irish, Scottish and English folk music.
Johnny McCarthy is a musician, composer and lecturer from Cork. McCarthy leads the programme in Irish traditional studies at MTU Cork School of Music and is a prolific composer, recording artist and performer. Ciara O'Leary Fitzpatrick is a musician and composer from North Cork and has been working in the arts industry for over ten years. Having held a variety of roles within the sector, she has a rich understanding of working both on and off the stage. She is currently doing a PhD examining the success of entrepreneurship education in Folk music.
